A national chain of sex toy shops has made its first move into the Richmond market.

California-based Hustler Hollywood opened a store last week at 2343 W. Broad St. on the edge of the Fan near the Science Museum of Virginia.

The store is the company’s first shop in Richmond and second location in Virginia.

Hustler Hollywood (stylized HUSTLER Hollywood) stores carry a range of sex toys, lingerie, adult novelty items and similar products.

The Richmond shop occupies a 4,500-square-foot space that was most recently home to a Pizza Hut. Company spokeswoman Minda Gowen declined to share how much investment was made in the buildout, but said it was “a significant amount.”

Hustler Hollywood stores carry products by brands such as Cal Exotics, We-Vibe, Womanizer, Playful Promises, Satisfyer and the in-house Hustler brand among others, according to Gowen.

The Broad Street store is planning a grand opening on March 4 from 6-9 p.m.

The chain’s other Virginia store is in Norfolk, and that location opened in the fall. There are about 60 Hustler Hollywood stores across the country, according to a company news release. All stores are corporately owned. The first store opened in 1998 in West Hollywood.

The retail concept is an arm of the Hustler brand created by Larry Flynt, the founder of pornographic publication Hustler magazine.

I guess the personal pan pizza will serve a different orifice at Hustler. Way to class up Board street – much better than historic Monuments

I’ll take a shop like this that will probably be gone within 5 years over any statue to traitors of our country.

yes typical mindset in today’s throwaway, secular liberal culture. No solider honored by a Memorial was accused of treason – stop with modernist, revisionist history for dummies meme. We experienced a civil war, like countless other nations. By your twisted logic there would be no statues or memorials to Pericles in Greece. All vestiges of the house of York and white Rose cancelled from public square in England. All paintings, statues and memorials to Richard III erased from history. Just need a group of cowardly agitators and rioters in masks – perhaps we can ship over from here.

“we” didn’t experience a civil war.

We, **Americans**, saw a bunch of traitors who were so addicted to the profits of owning other human beings and forcing them to work without pay that they added murder of American soldiers to their crimes against humanity.

I guess YOU need to move on and get over it.

If you hate America so much you pine for monuments to traitors, feel free to leave.

I’m sorry, but no. We should not glorify a “country” that broke away from the United States because of Slavery (Or, the state’s rights… to own slaves), only lasted for four years, and then had to take a pledge to rejoin the union.

You don’t see statues of Hitler in post-WWII Germany, I don’t want to see statues of Confederates in post-Civil War United States.

Are you under the impression that England is full of memorials to Richard III?

Frank you are dealing with folks who have no idea that history is judged by the time period it happened in. They know nothing about history nor do they care to learn. They are more concerned with how they look in their skinny jeans while waiting in line for their Mocha latte. The men during that period were 10x the man of any of them

Whatever you got to tell yourself. The “men of that time” glorified these traitors to subject their fake superior of another group of people. Why do you think most of these monuments popped up 15 plus years after the war? RECONSTRUCTION. After that era ended Southern Populism regain control and implemented Jim Crow. You just think it was a coincidence that all the monuments just so happen to be confederates? No Lincoln or Grant statue. I know my history very well. The full story not biased talking points.

Jordan, you’ve probably been told this many times in your life, but – you’re wrong. We know our history, and you can judge people’s past mistakes all we want. Its how we learn from the past, so that we don’t make those same mistakes.

Also, its pretty disturbing that you think Confederates are ten times more manly than men today. Owning slaves does not make you manly. Raising weapons at your Countrymen does not make you manly. Sacrificing lives over profit does not make you manly.

@jordan, it was easy to effectively be 10x the man back then when you could just go buy some men.

Powhatan Beatty was 10 times the man I am, but those guys literally wanting to die to save chattel slavery…? Seems pretty weak to me.

ADULTS shop for sex toy novelties, not kids. It is too close to the Children’s & Science Museum – could we have a little discretion sitting across the street from these museums? Did anyone in City Planning or Zoning question the proximity – or even have public comment?

That was my first thought until I noted that they did use a lot of discretion in their signage, so there is no reason for a child, unless they already know Hustler, to even notice it. If we really want to keep children away from adult oriented businesses then can we please keep them out of breweries and bars, which are also near by?

This just a national version of Precilla-McCalls which is just down Broad Street near Libbie. It is a retail store and city zoning doesn’t generally regulate by right generic retail stores no matter what they sell unless it is illegal on some level when in their allowed zoning district. This is a retail not a service industry and it is national chain. .

Why would I shop here when we have Richmond’s own Taboo? I get this may be a franchise operator who lives in Richmond, but Taboo was founded here and is a woman-owned business. I’m not about to switch from them to some chain.
